Fashion Wears Art: The Depiction, Interpretation, and Creation of Art on Garments
Fashion Now & Then: Fashion as Art
LIM College
October 20-22, 2016
In an exploration of the terms ‘art’ and ‘fashion,’ and the ways in which they co-exist, intersect, and reference each other, I presented my paper “Fashion Wears Art: The Depiction, Interpretation, and Creation of Art on Garments.” Utilizing examples from the works of designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as garments produced by mass retailers such as Zara and Uniqlo, I spoke about the relationship between art and fashion, focusing on the depiction of pre-existing works of art on garments and the implications they have on fashion theory.
I extend my sincere thanks to the conference committee for providing me with a grant to attend.
